The Horseshoe Crab can grow up to 2 feet, 60 cm long. The horseshoe crab has been on the earth for 2 million years! Unlike regular crabs that have red blood, the horseshoe crab has blue blood instead of red. Horseshoe crabs can live at depths of up to 100 ft down, and they feed on small animals in the mud and sand. The female horseshoe crab can lay 300 eggs, and it takes 9 to 12 years to grow to adulthood.
The reason why I chose to write about the Horseshoe Crab is that it is useful for humans and I worry that it could become an endangered species. This animal needs to be protected. Humans are one of it's only predators. We use the blue blood to get rid of bacteria in medicines.
